Spink Silver 1905 Medallion Awarded to Axel Welin

Description

This medallion was awarded at the Naval, Shipping & Fisheries Exhibition at Earl's Court in 1905. It is inscribed on the back: 'Axel Welin A.I.N.A. Award for Patent Davits'. Axel Welin (1862-1951) was a Swedish inventor who invented a new and improved davit for raising and lowering boats on board a ship known as the Welin Davit. The Titanic was equipped with Welin davits. The medallion is stamed 'silver' to one edge and has the maker 'Spink and Son' moulded into the back.

Condition: Overall in good condition, with some wear and tarnishing consistent with age. There some knocking and denting around the edges.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
4.5cm diameter.
