Description

This antique charger looks to date from the late nineteenth century. We believe it to be made from earthenware pottery and to be of English origin, although please note that there are no maker's marks. The charger has a white glaze with a gilt rim and hand-painted decoration of mistletoe in the centre and holly leaves around the edge. Also around the edge are transfer-printed Christmas scenes with Christmas verses underneath. The charger has an old plate hanger on the back which we have not attempted to remove.

Condition: Overall in good condition with some wear consistent with age. There is some grubbiness and wear as might be expected, especially to the gilt rim. There is some surface scratching. There are no visible chips or cracks and the piece rings true. The charger has an old plate hanger on the back which we have not attempted to remove - this has some surface rusting and corrosion.
