Description

This impressive salvaged fire surround is an original antique piece dating from around the turn of the nineteenth century. It came to us from the descendants of Upton House, a large Oxfordshire estate now partly owned by the National Trust, and we were told by the family that it was originally in the house itself. It is constructed mostly from pine with carved decoration, and has a superb carved section featuring foliage and serpents with a shell in the centre above the opening.

Condition: Overall this handsome piece would benefit from cleaning and restoration. It is significantly blackened and discoloured in places with use. There are some minor areas of wood loss and there is some cracking and damage in places. It is overall grubby.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall (external) - 147cm high, 175cm wide, 26.5cm deep (to maximums)
Overall (internal) - 107cm high, 114.5cm wide (to minimums).
