Description

This attractive harlequin set of antique dining chairs comprise seven identical chairs and one slightly different matched chair. The seven identical chairs are all marked for the Manchester chair maker James Reilly together with a Victorian registration diamond which dates them to 1877. The chair which is different is not marked. The chairs have solid mahogany frames with shaped backs, decorative bull's eye back rails and drop-in seat pads. They are supported on turned legs at the front and swept legs at the back. They have a nice shape. The upholstery is not original and is dated. The odd chair has a rounded front seat rail and other more subtle differences.

Condition: Overall this handsome set of chairs are in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. Please note that one of the chairs is different to the others - it is not marked with the maker and has a rounded front seat rail and other more subtle differences. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the chairs are overall a little faded. The chairs are pretty solid with but do have some slight movement in the joints. There are some signs of old restoration and repair, including to some of the back rails. There are some signs of old woodworm damage to the underneath - this is not active but has been retreated as a precaution. The upholstery is not original and has some wear, fraying and fading.

Overall - 85.5cm high, 43cm wide, 51cm deep (to maximums) 44.5cm high to seat.
