Description

This lovely dressing mirror has a highly decorative frame and back. We believe the frame be made from pressed silver, probably .800 grade, although please note that there are no hallmarks, maker's marks or purity marks. We believe it to be of Eastern origins and to date from the first part of the twentieth century. The mirror is designed to lay mirror-side down to display its decorative back and then to be picked up when required. It has a handle on the middle of the back in the form of a bird lying on foliage. The mirrored glass is a little loose in the frame and may be a replacement.

Condition: Overall in fair condition with some damage and wear consistent with age and use. The mirrored glass is a little loose in the frame and may be a replacement. There is some overall rubbing, surface scratching and tarnishing as might be expected. There is some denting and knocking in places, including around the edges and to the decoration on the back. There is some splitting, in small areas to the back, and more significantly around the front edge. The bird handle on the back is bent / misshapen. There are some signs of repair and resoldering in places. The mirror would benefit from some sympathetic restoration.
