Description

This pair of decorative folding wall shelves date from the early twentieth century. They are constructed from some type of hand-carved softwood, probably stained pine. They are black forest pieces, probably of German origin. The shelves have central mirrors and folding shelves with fabric fringes that may be later.

Condition: Overall in good condition, with some wear and damage consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and they are overall a little grubby and dusty. They show some signs of repair and re-gluing and have some cracking in places. One of them is cracked right the way across the front top section. The metal fixings have some surface corrosion. Only one of the mirrors is bevel-edged, so we think that at least one of the mirrors (probably the non-bevel edged mirror) has been changed at some point. The mirrors have some black corrosion flecks.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
38cm high, 20cm wide, 13cm deep.
