Description

This lovely antique cocktail cabinet dates from around the 1920s. There are no maker's marks or labels, but it is of lovely quality. The cabinet has the rounded shape characteristic of art deco style, with a central upper mirror-backed compartment with double sliding glass doors. Beneath this is a two-door cupboard with two removable shelves inside, and to either side is a single-door cupboard with three removable shelves inside. The top and doors are quarter-veneered with burr walnut and the interior of the glazed section is veneered with bird's eye maple. The piece retains its original locks and escutcheons, but please note that no key is present. There is a shaped piece of glass that sits on the top.

Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in usuable condition, but does have some heavy wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is badly faded, particuarly to the top and to one side. There is some lifting and wood shrinkage cracking to the veneers, and some chipping and minor loss in places. One of the central cupboard door handles has an area of loss. There is some black pitting and corrosion to the mirror. The glass doors have some chipping around the edges. No key is present. The glass of the top has some surface scratching and some nibbling around the edges.
