Description

This antique Victorian bow-fronted chest of drawers dates from c.1880. It is of a nice small size and is a cottage piece. It splits in two to aid it being taken upstairs. It is difficult to tell if the split has been added afterwards, but if so it was done some considerable time ago. The chest is mahogany veneered over solid wood. It consists of four graduated bow-fronted drawers which retain their original turned wooden handles. The drawers retain their locks and escutcheons, but please note that no key is present. The chest is supported on small feet with metal castors, which are later additions.

Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in usuable condition but does have some heavy wear consistent with age and use. There is some heavy scuffing and wear to the woodwork and the piece is overall faded. There is some chipping and loss to the veneer, including a large area of loss to the top edge at the front. The top is stained, scuffed marked and has some indentations to one side. The castors and metal fixings are rusted. No key is present. The piece would benefit from some tidying and from re-finishing. As is mentioned above we are not sure if the fact that it splits in two is original to the piece.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 95cm high, 98cm wide, 52.5cm deep (to maximums).
