Description

This lovely pair of vintage oil lamps are probably of nautical origins. They are lead-weighted and gimballed with removable reservoirs and burners. They appear to be chrome-plated over brass and to date from the early to mid twentieth century. They have not been heavily used. The wall bracket is in the form of a sea serpent. The lamps retain their adjustable heat shields. The wick adjuster is stamped 'Sherwood Ltd Bham', and one of the burner tops is stamped 'British Starainge Burner' - this mark is scratched out on the other burner top. They are of nice quality, but please note that they are missing their chimneys.

Condition: Overall in good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some pitting and denting in places, to both the lamps and the heat shields, but they do not appear to have been heavily used. One of the hinged burner covers is detached at the hinge and requires resoldering.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
Lamp - 18cm high, 21cm long
Heat Shield - 24cm long (support).
