Description

This attractive set of Georgian country dining chairs date from c.1780. They are a harlequin set, so have differences, and please note that one chair has a different design back to the others. Other differences include to the aprons beneath the seats, the front lower stretchers, and that two of the chairs have brass stud finials to the tops of the back supports and two do not. They are constructed from a mix of hardwoods, primarily we believe oak and ash. The chairs have turned spindle backs, solid seats with shaped aprons below, and they are supported on turned legs with turned stretchers.

Condition: Overall this handsome set of chairs are in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and some slight fading. There are some signs of old woodworm - this is not active, but has been treated as a precaution. The chairs are solid with only minimal movement in the joints. They show some signs of restoration as might be expected. One of the chairs has a wood shrinkage crack to the seat which has been repaired and a strengthening bar has been fitted underneath. As is mentioned above these are a harlequin set of the chairs and so do have differences.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 90cm high, 50cm wide, 35cm deep (to maximums) 43cm high to seat.
