Description

This lovely compactum wardrobe dates from c.1870. It is constructed from solid wood with lovely maple veneers. The compact has a central mirrored door, which opens to reveal four slides over three drawers. To the left-hand side is a full-length hanging section, and to the right-hand side is a hanging section with with a slide and recessed compartment underneath. Both the hanging sections have more modern wooden hanging rails. The wardrobe retains its wooden knob handles, although the central twist open mechanism does not work, and it also retains its locks, although please note that no key is present. The wardrobe has a rounded top cornice and is supported on a plinth base. Please note that it splits down into six pieces (top cornice, base, mirrored door, three sections) for ease of transportation.

Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in usuable condition, but does have some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall faded, more heavily so to the left-hand door and side. This door is also slightly warped (curved). The piece shows some signs of restoration and repair - there are some areas of cracking and repair to the veneers, and the mirrored door beading has been repaired. The hanging rails are more modern, and as is mentioned above no key is present. The wardrobe twist latch on the central door does not work.
