Description

This lovely antique coal scuttle is made from what we believe to be pressed brass with a pressed tin base and liner. It has shaped steel handles and feet, and a removable lid. It looks to have a laquered-type finish on the outside. We would estimate it to date from c.1910. The coal scuttle has lovely art nouveau decoration pressed into the sides and lid. There are no maker's marks. It would also make a nice waste paper bin.

Condition: Overall in very good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some tarnishing, blackening and grubbiness as might be expected. The piece also has some surface wear and denting. The liner has some surface corrosion and a few small holes.

38cm high, 41cm wide (handle to handle), 31cm diameter of top.
