Description

This attractive antique dressing chest dates from approx. 1890 and is very much in the art nouveau style. It is constructed from what we believe to be mainly solid walnut. It has a central adjustable walnut-framed bevel-edged mirror with a decorative top, which is flanked on either side by shaped supports with a small drawer. There is a two-tier work surface with a small drawer at either side and two long drawers beneath. The piece has a shaped lower apron and is supported on castors. The drawers retain their original decorative handles. All the drawers retain locks (although some are replacements), but please note that no key is present.

Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing, knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall quite faded. There is some black spotting to the mirror. There is a damaged section to the left-hand side at the top at the back. There is some marking to the work surfaces and to the drawer fronts. There is some heavier wear around the edges and some knocks, scratches and indentation in places. One drawer is missing its escutcheon and some of the locks have been replaced at some point.

Overall - 180.5cm high, 113cm wide, 48cm deep (to maximums) 68.5cm high to lower work surface.
