Description

This attractive bar brooch is made from 9ct. gold with what we believe to be an opal stone set at an angle in the centre. It is marked on the back with 9ct. and the maker's mark E.W.S. & Co., which we have not been able to identify. We would estimate it to date from the early twentieth century. The brooch is contained within an antique leather-covered jewellery box, which is not original.

Condition: Overall in good condition with some wear consistent with age. The stone is set at an angle and the gold bar  at either side is also slightly angled - we are not sure how much, if any, of this is due to misshaping. There is a dent to one side of the stone mount. There is some surface wear as might be expected. The box has some scuffing and wear and some discolouration inside.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
Brooch - 4.8cm long.
