Description

This attractive jewellery box / casket dates from the middle of the nineteenth century. It is of nice quality with a Braman patent lock. The box has a black leather exterior over a wooden frame, with brass fixings. The box retains what we believe to be its original working key - and the lock is designed that the box can only be opened with the key in the lock. Internally the box has a velvet-lined top and bottom. It retains its original lift-out sectionalised tray. There may originally have been a second tray on top of this, but we are not 100% sure of this, and only the one tray is now present.

Condition: Overall in good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. The leather has some scuffing, nicking, denting and wear as might be expected, and there are some small grubby stain marks. The leather finish has lifted / bubbled on one side. The metal fixings and key have some surface corrosion in places. Internally the box has some slight grubiness. There is some damage on the top edge of the front of the box next to the lock where it apppears some attempt has been made to break in at some point. The lock however remains secure.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
28cm long, 19cm wide, 14cm high (with lid closed).
