Description

This lovely vintage teddy bear is of unusual large size. He has no maker's marks, but he has the characteristics of an English bear and was possibly made by Chad Valley. He retains a metal button in one ear, but this is corroded. The bear has mohair fur with replacement felt pads, glass eyes, replacement black claw stitching and a straight black stitched nose and mouth. He is hard stuffed and has what we believe to be a growler inside his tummy which is no longer operative. We believe him to date from the 1930s/40s.

Condition: Overall in fair condition, with some playwear consistent with age and use. He is overall dusty, grubby and faded, and his mohair fur is thinning and worn. He shows signs of restoration and re-stitching - his back seam has been re-stitched at some point and his felt pads and claw stitching are replacements. The card inside one foot pad is creased. His button-in-ear has some corrosion. The growler inside his tummy is no longer operative.
