Description

This set of six Minton, Hollins & Co. tiles are salvage pieces and were once set into a fireplace or floor. They feature biblical scenes, and there are five different scenes present (two of the tiles feature the same scene). Moulded into the back of each tile is 'Minton, Hollins & Co. Patent Tile Works Stoke on Trent', although this is not visible on all tiles due to cement residue. The scenes are two-tone in colour, brown and tan and the fronts are glazed. We would estimate them to date from c.1880.

Condition: Overall they do have some damage and wear. The tiles have cement residue around the sides and backs, more significant on some than others. The fronts have some scratching, wear, chipping and crazing. One of the tiles is broken into two pieces. Two others have significant losses - one to one corner and another in various places around the edges. Two of the tiles feature the same scene.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
Tile - 15.5cm square.
