Description

This lovely set of eight Asprey reference books date from around the 1920s. They were bound by Asprey as their 'Reference Library'. The set comprises: Dictionary for the Pocket French and English, Asprey's Encyclopaedia, Familiar French and Latin Quotations and Proverbs, Familiar English Quotations and Proverbs, A Handy Classical Dictionary and a Handy Dictionary of Mythology (bound together), Asprey's Gazetteer of the World, Asprey's Atlas of the World, and Asprey's Modern English Dictionary. The books are bound in blue cloth with navy blue leather spines. They are retained within their original wooden book stand which has a Asprey maker's plaque inset into the back.

Condition: Overall in near good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. The books have some damage. They are worn and a little misshapen. The bindings have some relatively minor areas of loss, and the dictionary looks to be missing a leather clasp or strap. Internally there is some creasing, wear and discolouration to the pages and the hinges are split on most of the books - some look to have been re-glued into their cases at some point. The book stand has some wear and scuffing. There is a shrinkage crack across the back and a small area of loss to one of the front corners.

Stand - 20cm long, 16cm deep.
