Description

This attractive sofa table is an original antique piece dating from c.1780-1800. It is very much in the Sheraton style, and is of lovely quality. The table is constructed primarily from solid mahogany with lovely string inlays to the front, the back and the base. The top is cross-banded. The table has a drop leaf at either side, which are supported on fold-out wooden arms. There are two drawers beneath the top, which open at opposite sides and there are matching false drawer fronts at the opposite side to either drawer. This means that the table could be used as a centre table and is a sign of quality. The drawers have replacememt brass ring handles. The table is supported on swept legs, with a shaped a stretcher between, terminating in what we believe to be lovely original brass claw castors.

Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. The top is slightly wavy where the wood joins have moved a little over the years. There are some signs of old restoration and repair.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 71.5cm high, 98cm wide (closed), 145cm wide (open), 70cm deep (to maximums).
