Description

This attractive child's commode chair dates from around the 1890s. It is constructed from what we believe to be stained beech and elm with a spindle back and ring turned legs and supports. The chair has a shaped seat and splayed legs with rounded stretchers in between. It has a pull-out front guard rail which may be a replacement. Unusually the chair retains its original enamel potty. It would make a nice nursery feature or seat for the larger doll or teddy.

Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. It is solid with some minimal movement in the joints. There are signs of old woodworm damage - this is not active, but has been treated as a precaution. The guard rail may be a replacement. The enamel potty has some chipping and wear and some surface corrosion.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 59.5cm high, 41cm wide, 38cm deep (to maximums).
