Description

This attractive sideboard dates from c.1890. It is of superb quality and is constructed from solid oak. The sideboard has lovely carved panels in the arts and crafts style. Beneath the top there is a central drawer, which is partly sectionalised, with a two-door cupboard beneath and an open section beneath this. On either side there is a smaller drawer with a single-door cupboard beneath. The cupboard on the left-hand side has three pull-out slides inside, and the one on the right-hand side has a single pull-out slide over a lead-lined cellarette with six sections. The piece retains its lovely brass show hinges and handles, and retains its Hobbs & Co. locks, although please note that no keys are present. The piece is supported on a plinth base.

Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. There are some signs of old restoration and repair. The top has some scratching a few marks. There is some slight wood shrinkage cracking in places. There is a an area of wood of wood loss to the back of the plinth base at the right-hand side. There are some signs of woodworm to the plinth base - this has been treated.
