Description

This attractive dresser dates from the first half of the twentieth century and is probably of continental origins. It is constructed of oak, some solid, some veneered, some plywood. The dresser has a glazed cabinet at either side, each with a single door and six adjustable wooden shelves inside. There is another glazed compartment in the top of the central section, this one has two doors with lovely bevelled glass and a single removable wooden shelf inside. Beneath this is an open section with a worktop and a further pull-out work surface underneath. Beneath this is a fitted bow-fronted cutlery drawer, which retains some (but not all) of what appears to be its original cutlery - silver-plated cutlery made by Lee & Wigfull of Sheffield. Beneath this is a two-door bow-fronted cupboard with a single removable wooden shelf inside. The piece retains its decorative metal handles and escutcheons, and three keys are present - one of which works the locks for the top central cupboard and two of which work the three other cupboard door locks. There is no key present which works the cutlery drawer. The piece is supported on turned feet. The piece does split down, but requires knowledge (and a screwdriver) to reassemble. We would advise that anyone planning on reassembling the piece be present at disassembly.

The cutlery drawer contains: (bottom layer) 3x pickle forks, 2x preserve spoons, mustard spoon, 3-piece carving set, sugar tongs, 2x serving ladles, 12x knife rests, 12x desert forks, 12x desert spoons, 12x desert knives, (top layer) 12x dinner forks, 12x spoons, 12x dinner knives, 9x pudding spoons, 11x teaspoons. There are empty sections so some items are missing.

Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. There are some areas of wood and veneer loss, including to the drawer front. There is some scraping to the sides and a few scratches to the glass panels. Some of the shelves have marks, and there are some dark marks and staining to the work surface. The cutlery drawer lining is worn and faded and the cutlery set inside is not complete. The cutlery has been used and as such is a little worn, scratched and tarnished. There is no key present for the cutlery drawer.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 200cm high, 193cm wide, 65cm deep (to maximums).
