Description

This attractive Edwardian bureau dates from c.1910 and is constructed from mahogany, some solid, some veneered over a wooden carcass. It has decorative inlays around the top and around the drawer and fall front edges and an inlaid shell motif to the centre of the fall front. The bureau has a fall front which drops down to reveal a writing surface and an arrangement of pigeon holes and small drawers behind. Beneath the fall front are three drawers. The bureau is supported on shaped bracket feet. The drawers retain brass handles and the top two drawers and fall front retain their locks, althought please note that no key is present. The bottom drawer is missing its lock.

Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. There are some ring marks to the top. There is some wood loss around the edge of the fall front, and some areas of veneer loss, including to the left-hand side front edge. The hinges of the fall front have been replaced. There is some ink staining to the writing surface inside the bureau. The handles are later replacements and the bottom drawer is missing its lock.

The approx. measurements are as follows:
