Slades Antiques

Description

These antique gaming tokens are of Chinese origin and have lovely etched decoration on both sides with cross-hatched backgrounds. They are made from mother of pearl, with serrated edges. One side features an oriental scene in the centre (the scenes are all different) with a flower to either side, surrounded by geometric patterned borders. The other side has a roudel in the centre with a letter inside, which we believe to be a J, again with a flower to either side, surrounded by the same geometric patterned borders. We would estimate them to date from the mid-nineteenth century. The tokens are rectangular.

Condition Very good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. Some of the tokens has have small edge or corner chips.

6cm by 2cm.
