Description

This attractive antique batchelor's chest dates from c.1810. It is constructed from mahogany, some solid, some veneered over solid wood. It has a cross-banded top and consists of four drawers that are graduated it size with a pull-out wooden brush slide above. The chest is supported on bracket feet. The drawers retain what we believe to be their original brass handles, and the brush slide retains two smaller handles, which are slightly different (one is a replacement). All the drawers retain their locks and escutcheons, but please note that no key is present.

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall a little faded. There are some signs of restoration and repair - the bracket feet appear to be later replacements and the drawers have had strengthening bars fitted. There is some scratching and slight veneer nibbling to the top. The slide has some scratching and some grubby marks. As is mentioned above one of the slide handles is a replacement and does not quite match.

The approx. measurements are as follows
Overall - 85cm high, 95cm wide, 50cm deep (to maximums).
