Description

This lovely chest of drawers dates from c.1780 although it may be older. It has lovely walnut veneers (over solid wood) with cross-banding to the top and drawer fronts. The chest consists of two small drawers over three long drawers that are graduated in size. The chest has decorative brass handles and brass escutcheons - these have been replaced at some point over the years but do have some age. Two of the five drawers are missing their locks and please note that no key is present. The chest is supported on unusual bun feet, which are fairly modern replacements (but are probably copies of the originals).

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected from and the piece has some fading and discolouration. The chest shows signs of alteration and repair - as is mentioned above the handles, escutcheons and feet have been replaced at various points over the years. There is some shrinkage cracking to the veneers and some marks to the top and sides. There are some signs of old woodworm damage in places - this is not active, but has been retreated as a precaution.

The approx. measurements are as follows
Overall - 90.5cm high, 99cm wide, 57cm deep (to maximums).
