Description

This lovely open wing-back armchair dates from c.1840. It has what we believe to be a walnut frame, although please note that we are not 100% of the wood type. The chair has an over-upholstered frame with a shaped back and open arms with turned supports. It has a sprung seat and a removable feather-filled seat cushion. The chair is supported on turned legs with stretchers to the sides and at the back. The front legs terminate in brass castors - the back legs would originally have had castors as well but these have been removed at some point, probably to tilt the chair back slightly. The chair has more modern upholstery - it is a spotty blue in colour, and we believe it to be a silk-cotton mix.

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. The chair is solid and usuable, with only minimal movement in the joints. There is some wear and scuffing to the woodwork as might be expected. The upholstery has some grubbiness and fading (particularly to the arms and to the top of the back rest), but is in overall good condition with no rips or tears. As is mentioned above there would originally have been castors on the front and back, but the ones on the back have been removed at some point.

Overall - 93cm high, 71cm wide, 72cm deep (to maximums) 44.5cm high to seat (including cushion).
