Description

This attractive pedestal desk dates from c.1870. It is constructed from what we believe to be walnut over a pine carcass, although please note that we are not 100% sure of the wood type. The desk has a green leather-topped writing surface with gilt tooling. Underneath the writing surface there is a longer drawer flanked on either side by a smaller drawer. Each pedestal has three graduated drawers. The drawers retain what we believe to be their original art nouveau style metal handles. The top three drawers retain their locks, although please note that no key is present and that the middle drawer is missing its escutcheon. The desk is supported on a plinth base. Please note that it splits into three pieces for ease of transportation.

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected. The inset leather top is a replacement. The metal handles are tarnished. As is mentioned above the middle drawer at the top is missing its escutcheon. The sides have some wood shrinkage splitting.

The approx. measurements are as follows
Overall - 76cm high, 106.5cm wide, 54.5cm deep (to maximums).
