Description

This unusual corner cabinet is an early country piece dating from c.1810. It is constructed from a mix of solid pine and oak. The cabinet is pine-fronted with a bowed top. It consists of an upper section with two doors, which open to reveal a painted interior with two fixed shaped shelves, and a lower section with two doors that open to reveal a painted interior with a single fixed shaped shelf. The upper cupboard doors and bow-fronted top have attractive geometric panelled decoration. The cupboard doors retain decorative brass escutcheons and locks. Both retain keys, but the top lock is very stiff and the bottom lock does not work. Please note that the piece does not split down at all.

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in usuable condition, but does have some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing, knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected from an antique country piece, and there is some fading and discolouration. There is some shrinkage cracking to the bow-fronted top, and some areas of minor wood loss. The painted interior is scuffed, worn and dirty with some paint loss. There are some signs of old restoration and repair. There are some signs of old woodworm, primarily to the top and the back panels - this is not active, but has been retreated as a precaution. There are some old names and dates written on the inside of one of the cupboard doors. As is mentioned above the top lock is very stiff and the bottom lock does not work.

The approx. measurements are as follows
Overall - 211.5cm high, 93cm wide (across front), 45cm deep (from corner to centre of front) (to maximums).
