Description

This superb art deco bed is an original piece dating from approx. the 1920s. It has stunning veneers, primarily burr walnut and walnut, and has a lovely inlaid butterly on the outer side of the footboard. The burr walnut is quarter-veneered to create lovely patterns. The footboard has a shaped lower apron and both the headboard and footboard are supported on shaped feet. It is of heavy construction and superb quality. There are no maker's marks or labels. The bed is a small 4ft. double and retains a folding bed base and matress - this is not original and conforms to fire safety regulations. The mattress was made by P.M. Flanagan & Sons. The bed has metal side rails and splits down for ease of transportation.

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some light scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and some fading, cracking and chipping to the veneers. The metal side rails and fixings have some surface rusting. The mattress and bed base are clean with only a few small marks and some very slight discolouration. The bed base has a small tear in the fabric at one side.

Overall - 130.5cm high, 122.5cm wide, 201cm long (to maximums) 32cm high to bottom of side rail 66.5cm high to top of mattress.
