Description

This lovely antique pole screen dates from c.1830. It has a rosewood column base and frame with carved decoration to the top and bottom of the frame. The screen has a brass pole behind the frame with a finial on the top, and the frame can be adjusted up and down on this pole. The piece is supported on three bun feet. The tapestry panel depicts a classical / biblical scene, and we believe this panel to be later than the rest of the piece.

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall a little faded. The brasswork is tarnished and has some surface corrosion. The tapestry panel is a little faded and is not original. There is some shrinkage splitting to the base and to the roundel above. The brass pole is slightly bent. The fixing on the back of the screen has been lowered at some point.

The approx. measurements are as follows
Overall - 133cm high (to top of pole), 40cm wide (framed panel), 33cm diameter of base.
