Lovely Regency Inlaid Mahogany Chest of Drawers

Photos

Description

This lovely antique chest of drawers dates from c.1820. It is constructed from mahogany, some solid, some veneered over solid wood, and it retains a nice rich colour. The chest has satinwood string inlay around the top and the base, and the top is cross-banded. It consists of two small drawers over three long drawers that are graduated in size. The drawers have brass handles that are possibly replacements and nice shield escutcheons. It is supported on lovely elegant swept feet at the front and tall bracket feet at the back.

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing, knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the chest is overall a little faded. There is some wood shrinkage splitting to the sides, top, and to the drawer bases. There are some marks and scratching to the top, and some cracking to the inlay. The chest shows signs of professional restoration. The locks are all missing except for one, and no key is present.

The approx. measurements are as follows
Overall - 105cm high, 119.5cm wide, 55cm deep (to maximums).
