Description

This oak coffer dates from the second half of the eighteenth century, but please note that it does need some restoration as the top is currently detached. The coffer is constructed from solid oak with panelled sides, top and front. It retains its lock, but please note that no key is present. It is of a nice size.

Condition: Overall this piece does require some restoration work prior to use. The top is detached and needs the hinges replacing. There is some heavy scuffing, scratching, knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall faded. There is some marking and staining, and there is some shrinkage cracking to the top. No key is present for the lock and the escutcheon on the front is broken with some loss. The piece shows some signs of old restoration, and strengthening bars have been attached to the inside of the coffer lid at some point. There are some signs of old woodworm - this is not active but has been retreated as a precaution.

The approx measurements are as follows:
71.5cm high, 120cm wide, 53cm deep (to maximums).
