Description

This lovely antique chest of drawers dates from approx. 1820. It would benefit from some restoration work. It is mahogany veneered over a wooden carcass with a nice cross-banded top. The chest consists of two small drawers over three longer drawers and is supported on elegant tall swept legs at the front and square legs at the back. The drawers have replacement brass handles and retain their escutcheons, but three out of the five drawers are missing their locks and please note that no key is present.

Condition Overall this handsome piece does have some wear consistent with age and use and would benefit from some restoration work. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall faded. As is mentioned above the handles are replacements and three out of the five drawer locks are missing. There is some cock-beading missing from around the drawers and some areas of veneer damage and loss. There are some signs of old restoration and repair - some of the veneer looks to have been replaced at some point, and the back panel and legs look to have been replaced. There is some wood shrinkage splitting to the sides. There are some ring marks and patchy staining to the top. There is some is some woodworm damage - this is not active but has been retreated as a precation. The piece would benefit from being tidied up and repolished.
