Description

This antique cabinet was made by the well-known firm of Spillman & Co. and retains its original maker's plaque on the back. The cabinet would originally have been used as a music cabinet, but it would make a nice set of filing shelves in a office. The piece is constructed from mostly solid mahogany and has a top gallery with a pierced design. There is a single door with attractive geometric astral glazing, which opens to reveal three thin removable wooden shelves. The cabinet has attractive blind fretwork decoration around the front edges and is supported on shaped feet. It retains its lock, although please note that no key is present and that the door has had a later early plastic / Bakalite handle and metal catch fitted.

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some light scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall slightly faded. There is a small area of wood loss to the gallery, and an area of wood loss to the back of the wooden part of the astral glazing of the door.
