Superb Walnut & Camphor Wood Linen Press

Photos

Description

This lovely linen press is Georgian in style, but is a later reproduction piece. We believe it to date from around the 1930s, although it may be a little later. It is of superb quality and heavy construction with lovely walnut veneers. The piece consists of a top section with two panelled doors, which open to reveal three pull-out linen slides, and a lower section which consists of two small drawers over two longer drawers. The insides of the slides and drawers are constructed from camphor wood. The drawers and door retain their decorative brass handles and locks, but please note that no key is present. The piece is supported on inverted ogee bracket feet and has a lovely decorative top cornice. The piece splits into three for ease of transportation, but please note that it is very heavy.

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some light scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall faded. There is some shrinkage cracking to the beading around the drawers. There are also a few knocks to the veneer on the left-hand side near the back. There is some scuffing around the feet. The door catches are stiff. The linen slides have some water staning inside.

The approx. measurements are as follows
Overall - 198cm high, 120cm wide, 54.5cm deep (to maximums).
