Description

This lovely vintage bear has no maker's labels, but has the characteristics of an early English bear, and was possibly made by Chiltern. He has mohair fur with velvet-type pads, and his feet pads are card-backed. He has glass eyes, a black stitched nose and mouth, and a shaven muzzle. He has black claw stitching to his feet and hands. He is fully jointed. He is soft stuffed with a hard stuffed nose. He has the remains of what we believe to be a squeaker inside, but please note that this is no longer operative. We believe him to date from the 1940s. He has with him a label that hung around his neck on a ribbon stating 'Rosemary Davies Senior Cookery Prize'. He came to us with this label so we didn't want to part them.

Condition Overall in good condition, with some playwear consistent with age and use. His mohair fur is mostly still quite fluffy, with some thinning and bald patches. There are some signs of repair - to the top of his left hand pad - and his hand pads are possibly replacements. His head joint is a little wobbly. He is overall a little faded.
