Regency Carved Mahogany Gilt-Framed Wall Mirror

Photos

Description

This lovely antique mirror dates from c.1820. It has a wooden frame that has been partially gilt-painted with carved floral, fruit and foliage decoration. We believe the wood to be mahogany, and the inner frame of the mirror is polished wood providing a nice contrast. The mirror has a wide bevel edge with attractive shaped shoulders. The holes on the back of the mirror frame indicate that it may once have been part of a piece of furniture, although it has been adapted (for quite some time) as a wall mirror.

Please note that we have a matching mirror (with slightly different carved decoration) available - please see our other listings.

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. As is mentioned above the mirror may originally have been part of a piece of furniture although it makes a nice wall mirror. The frame has some cracking (slight wood shrinkage) and some rubbing and wear to the paintwork, which has been touched up in places, and the polished parts have some scuffng. The mirror has some surface scratching and some minor corrosion to the backing. The back of the mirror has some wear and various screw and fixing holes. The wooden back panel is a little loose.

The approx. measurements are as follows
Frame - 76cm high, 46.5cm wide, 3cm deep (to maximums).
