Description

This lovely mirror is in the neoclassical style of the Adams brothers. It dates from approx. 1860. It has a wooden and gesso decorative frame that is gilt-painted. Above the mirror frame is a Grecian urn flanked on either side with trailing foliage with what remains of bow at either side, and beneath the mirror is a larger stylised bow - all gilt-painted gesso. The mirror is oval in shape with a wide bevel edge.

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in usuable condition, with some wear and damage consistent with age and use. There is some loss and cracking to the gesso decoration, including large areas of loss to the top bows at either side. The central urn is slightly twisted. There is some rubbing, wear and grubbiness to the gilt paintwork. There is some surface scratching and wear to the mirror. There is some cracking to the wooden frame of the mirror on the back where brackets have been screwed in and moved over the years. There is a more modern plywood sheet on the back of the mirror.

The approx. measurements are as follows
Frame - 80.5cm high, 101cm wide, 4cm deep (to maximums)
Mirror - 50cm high, 79.5cm wide (to maximums).
