Description

This lovely antique armchair dates from c.1890-1900, and is in need restoration and reupholstery. It is very much in the style of Howard chairs, but there are no maker's marks or labels that we can see. The chair has a shaped swept button-back, shaped arms, a serpentine front edge and shaped lower side rails. It is supported on square slightly tapering front legs and subtly shaped back legs. The chair is over upholstered, but the upholstery is later than the chair (it probably dates from the 1930s/1950s). The chair has a sprung seat and is of small proportions.

The frame appears to be solid and there are no visible signs of woodworm, but the upholstery is very grubby, holed and worn, and the sprung seat is sunken and requires attention.
