Set of 4 Victorian Inlaid Mahogany Parlour Chairs
Description
This elegant antique set of chairs date from c.1890. They are in need of reupholstery and some restoration. The chairs have swept shaped back rails, decorative open fretwork back panels, and over-upholstered seats. They have lovely carved laurel wreath decoration to the tops of the back panels, and there are decorative roundels to the fretwork. The chairs are supported on elegant tapering swept legs with decorative roundels to the tops and sides of the front legs (some of these are missing). The chairs have lovely cross-banded and string inlay. We believe them to be constructed from mahogany and walnut. Please note that we have a matching parlour / hall settee available - please see our other listings.

ConditionOverall this handsome set of chairs do need some restoration and would benefit from being reupholstered. There is some movement in the joints and these would benefit from being tightened. There is some scuffing, scratching, knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and some areas of veneer loss. There are some areas of wood loss, including to the top of the back rail of one of the chairs, and some denting. There are some signs of old restoration and repair. Some of the decorative roundels from the legs are missing, and there is one roundel missing from the fretwork on one of the chairs. The upholstery is faded, grubby, holed and worn, and the seats are sunken. Some of the fabric edging around the upholstered seats is missing.
