Georgian Mahogany Secretaire Desk c.1810

Description

This lovely secretaire is of a nice small size. It dates from c.1810 and is constructed from solid mahogany. The secretaire has a drop-down section at the top with an arrangement of pigeon holes and drawers behind. Below this are three graduated drawers. The piece is supported on tall shaped bracket feet. The top secretaire front has decorative mouldings remiscent of panelling. The drawers have replacement brass handles. The drawers retain their escutcheons and locks, although not all the locks are original, and please note that no key is present. There is an old despository / shipping label on the back which suggests the piece spent some time in Switzerland.

There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall slightly faded although it retains a lovely colour. There are a few areas of minor wood loss. There is some scratching and denting to the top. The piece has some signs of repair - one of the knob handles on one of the small drawers inside the secretaire section is a replacement.
