Description

This lovely antique chest of drawers is an original piece dating from c.1820-1830. The chest is constructed from mahogany and pine with mahogany veneers. The sides are not veneered. It is a of a lovely small size, and consists of four graduated drawers. The drawers retain their locks and lovely original decorative escutcheons, although please note that no key is present. The brass handles may be Victorian replacements. The drawer fronts and lower edge have simple string inlay. The chest is supported on bracket feet with a shaped lower apron to the front and sides. A lovely old country piece. The top drawer has had two later wooden dividers fitted.

There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall slightly faded but retains a nice colour. There are some signs of old repair, and there are some signs of old woodworm to the base and sides - this is not active but has been retreated as a precaution. Some of the cock-beading / inlay around the edges of the drawers is missing.
