Victorian Rosewood Two-Drawer Writing Table

Description

This superb writing desk is very much in the style of Gillows, although the piece has no maker's marks or stamps that we can see. We would estimate it to date from c.1860, although it may be earlier. It is constructed from rosewood (with possibly some walnut), some solid, some veneered over wooden carcass. The writing table has lovely rounded corners to the top and two drawers beneath. The drawers retain their original decorative wooden handles, and they retain their locks and escutcheons, although please note that no key is present. The writing table is supported on four lovely decorative legs with profusely carved tops that are Gothic in style. The legs terminate in original brass Cope castors.
