Description

A beautifully proportioned lowboy of rich, mellow mahogany, attributed to the esteemed Glasgow firm Muirhead Moffat & Co—renowned for their discerning eye and quality craftsmanship. The rectangular top sits above an arrangement of five drawers: three smaller above two full length , each retaining its original brass handles with elegant foliate backplates. The gently scalloped apron units four cabriole legs with acanthus-carved knees and terminating in bold claw-and-ball feet. Like all antiques, this piece bears the gentle marks of age and use, which only add to its character. The mahogany is well-figured, with a warm patina and excellent colour throughout. Stamped to the rear with the maker’s name, this lowboy exemplifies the firm’s reputation for refined, historically sympathetic furniture, and would sit comfortably in both traditional and eclectic interiors.
