Description

This generously proportioned English Oak Wainscot Chair dates from the latter half of the 17th Century. It is of good colour and patination and stands well. Beautifully simple, original carving to the top rail and light decoration to the top of the arms.
The Chair has the additional interest of a small, engraved plaque fixed to the back. It states the Chair was given as a gift to Sir George Masterman Gillett, JP in 1937. This illustrated a short part of this Chair's journey from the 1600's to the present day.
Over the years it has developed a few creaks and there are some repairs to the seat.
