Description

An original English artefact from circa 1905, crafted in the form of a Vesta match case, struck from copper salvaged from HMS Foudroyant. This piece commemorates the centenary of the Battle of Trafalgar (1805) and was issued in support of the British & Foreign Sailors Society.

The obverse features an applied plaque with an embossed depiction of the ship in full sail, inscribed:
• “Foudroyant Nelson’s Flagship”
• “Commenced 1789”
• “Launched 1798”
• “Wrecked Blackpool 1897”
• Material: Copper (from HMS Foudroyant)
• Condition: Good, with hinge in working order and match striker to base minor dents to front and back consistent with age and use

A rare and historically significant piece of naval memorabilia, combining craftsmanship, commemoration, and provenance from a celebrated Royal Navy vessel.
