Rare Edward VIII Royal Artillery Officer's Sword

Description
A scarce and highly desirable Royal Artillery officer's sword dating to the brief reign of King Edward VIII in 1936, retaining its original leather-covered service scabbard. The sword features a finely etched blade bearing the Royal Artillery crest, regimental motifs and decorative scrolling, together with the cypher of Edward VIII, making it an unusually short-lived and collectable example from one of the briefest reigns in British history. The ricasso is marked for Wilkinson, one of Britain's most prestigious military sword makers, and carries the retailer's details for J. G. Plimer Ltd., Aldershot, a well-known military outfitter.
The hilt retains its original wire-bound fishskin grip beneath a three-bar guard, while the leather-covered field service scabbard survives with its metal throat fitting. The blade remains bright with clear etching throughout, displaying the Royal Artillery badge, motto and military devices.
Edward VIII military swords were only produced for a matter of months before the abdication crisis of December 1936, making surviving examples considerably scarcer than those of George V or George VI.
An attractive and historically interesting British officer's sword, ideal for collectors of military antiques, Royal Artillery memorabilia, or Wilkinson-made edged weapons.
Condition:
Good antique condition with wear and oxidation to the hilt and scabbard fittings commensurate with age and service. Blade etching remains clear and well defined. Original leather-covered scabbard present.
