Description

A fine quality early Victorian rosewood whatnot dating to circa 1860, of elegant and highly decorative form. The piece is beautifully constructed in richly figured rosewood, displaying deep colour and a striking natural grain throughout.

Raised on turned barley twist supports terminating in original brass castors, the whatnot offers three graduated tiers, each providing useful display or storage space. The top tier is fitted with an attractive pierced gallery, finely carved with scrolling foliate detail, adding both refinement and practicality.

The shelves are well-proportioned and solidly made, with the middle and lower tiers offering generous surface area, making the piece ideal for displaying books, ceramics, or decorative objects. The open design ensures it remains light in appearance despite its sturdy construction.

circa 1860
