A 19th-century Anglo-Indian Carved Hardwood Table,

Photos

Description

A striking 19th-century Anglo-Indian carved hardwood table, richly decorated with dense and intricate carving throughout.

The octagonal top is finely worked with scrolling foliate motifs surrounding a central plain panel, framed by a deeply carved border with excellent depth and definition. Beneath, the table is supported on multiple turned and carved legs, each enriched with figural and geometric detailing, united by radiating stretchers centred on a turned finial, creating both structural strength and visual drama.

The carving is bold and exuberant, typical of Anglo-Indian furniture produced for the British colonial market, where craftsmanship and ornamentation were prized. The rich patina and colour of the hardwood enhance the depth of the carving and speak to its age and quality.

Dating to the mid–late 19th century (circa 1860–1890), this table would make an impressive occasional table, lamp table, or statement piece in a layered interior, equally at home in a traditional setting or as a contrast within a more eclectic scheme.
